 
Puerto de la Luz is the main harbour of Gran Canaria . In 1852, it was declared free
port .

Every year, about 15.000 ships come into the harbour, taking advantage of its
favourable economic conditions. The main exportgoods are: patatoes, tomatoes,
bananas and fishes.
Exotic plants, onions and avocados are also exported. The quality of the products is
essential, this is recognise by Northeuropean neighbours .

There is an active movement of people
between this and the other islands. Both cars and people with the ferries and only people
with the jetfoil may travel between islands .
