Santa Maria de Guia

"Santa Maria de Guia" and "Galdar" are two of the most populated towns of the island. They have also suffered some changes with the time being .
In this region it is situated the biggest fruit and vegetables plantations .

In the middle of 19 century the aromatic banana plantation was brought to the island from Indochina . Nowadays, 90.000 tones are grown every year. Other fruits which grow also here are : papaya, mango, orange, lemon trees and avocados.

However, all good is not exported, part of it stays here for being sold in the markets. A great choice for tourists to try fresh fruit !!!

"Pico de Galdar", a 450m high volcanic mountain is the caracteristic symbol of the village .  Many years ago, Galdar was a very important aborigen village . From that time, it is posssible to see the old buildings and the church built because of the Spanish occupation .
