| FLAMENCO
Flamenco is a typical dance of
the south of Spain which mix song and dance in three different types: Cante,
Fussion of dance and guitar
Gypsis have been always considered
as the flamenco's parents and they have played a fundamental role in its
development. However, folckmusic and andalucian rythms have had also an influence on
the early flamenco.
There were also any other different influencies, like in
the own country in which lots of civilizations and cultures were living : the legendary
tartessos and many years of arabic ocupation have directly or indirectly
played a role in the flamenco.
The first reflection of these music on literature is in
the "Cartas Marruecas" by the Spanish Jose Cadalso, in 1774 . The birthplace
must be situated in Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera or Triana (Sevilla) where the first
flamenco-schools were built between 1765 and 1860 .
At that time, flamenco got a place in the dance halls. The
early flamenco was mainly vocal aided only with clapping of people, the so called
"toque de palmas". Later, composers such as Julián Arcas made much of guitars
in flamenco .
In the gold era (1869-1910) flamenco was improving in
some music-cafes (cafés cantantes) until getting its actual form.
Dancers have always been the main atraction for the public in
cafés cantantes, however, the guitar players had a fundamental role.
From 1910 to 1955 the "ópera flamenca" stayed in the center point. It added to
flamenco, above all, rythms of the light music such as "fandangos" and
"cantes de ida y vuelta" with latinoamerican influence .
In 1915 the first flamenco-Shows were organised, the tours
were over the world. This had also opposing minders, in 1922 it was found a group of
intellectual people which main figur was the author Manuel de Falla who made the autentic
"cante jondo" famous.
In 1955 it began a flamenco-Renaissance whose main figur was
the big Antonio Mairena.
Dancers and singers who had become famous in the "tablaos", the dance halls,
played in theaters and concert-halls.
Nowadays, guitars stay in a main point. The actual flamenco is influenced by other
rythms such as Jazz, Salsa, Bossa Nova, etc.

Also the dancers
have developed their style, above all, the dancer women with their temperament and
artistic dance. Guitars have also become importance with composers such as Paco de Lucía
who has played a key role in it.
The massive shows have made the flamenco international.
The autentic flamenco is enjoyed, above all, during a Juerga
in the south of Spain with a small group of musicians and friends.
All around the world shine with the voices, guitars and bodys
of the dancers under the moon.
It is not so difficult as it seems. Come to see us one night.
